Banded Sea Snake

I know I’m way behind in my posts and am over due! This week I’m posting photos of underwater things that could kill you.

This beautiful creature is a banded sea snake. This one was in Fiji, but they can be found all over the Pacific. The lethal venom of this reptile is 10 times more toxic than that of a rattlesnake. If you were to be bitten by this snake it would affect your muscles and nerves, and you would likely die before you had a chance to surface. Fortunately this snake is not aggressive and it’s mouth is too small to bite a human, but fishermen have been bitten when snakes get caught up in their nets.
