The Island of Java

Just to the west of Bali is the island of Java. The island and people are very different than Bali, but beautiful nonetheless. On my way to Mt. Bromo the road wound around rice terraces and farm field with a gorgeous view of the valley below.

Mt. Bromo is one of the island’s active volcanoes. At 4:00 a.m. we hiked up the mountain to watch the sunrise.

More rice terraces

I’m working on finding this area on Google Earth. Not as simple as it might seem, since most of Bali is covered in rice terraces. Absolutely breathtaking!

A nice cold Bintang

When traveling to Indonesia you will not need to deprive yourself of all the things we take for granted in the US. Like a nice cold beer. Bintang is brewed in Indonesia and is a subsidiary of Heineken. It’s always Bintang thirty somewhere in Indonesia.

Next Stop: Indonesia!

My next two photo excursions will be to Indonesia. In March I’ll be bringing 11 divers to Lembeh and Bunaken. In October I’ll be bringing 11 divers to several areas of Bali. This is one of my favorite places in the world. Bali it by far the most exotic place I’ve ever visited and I can wait to go back.

One of the most amazing scenery you’ll see is the miles upon miles of rice terraces up in the mountains. Most tourists only see the small area just north of Ubud, but I will go back to another area much higher in the mountains where you can see rice terraces as far as the eye can see. I hope I can find it again.

Catching up!

Just returned from another amazing photo workshop at Scuba Club Cozumel. Not only did we see the gorgeous colors of the reefs, but we got to snorkel with false killer whales and whalesharks! That however, was nothing compared to the fun we had spending time with old friends and making new ones. The people really make the trip and this group was the best of the best.
